Case Study: Dallas County, Iowa achieves better service and cost-efficient scalability with NetApp

A NetApp Case Study

Preview of the Dallas County, Iowa Case Study

Dallas County Serves Growing Population Better and More Cost-Efficiently with NetApp

Dallas County, Iowa—one of the fastest-growing counties in the U.S. with nearly 75,000 residents—faced mounting IT pressure as more staff, applications, and mobile services strained data center space and performance. Information Services needed a cost‑efficient, scalable platform to support critical systems (SQL databases, GIS, video surveillance, email) and enable virtual desktops and secure mobile file sharing for a dispersed workforce.

Partnering with IP Pathways, the county deployed an integrated NetApp, VMware, and Citrix solution centered on NetApp FAS storage with Flash Cache and virtualization via VMware vSphere and Horizon View. The rollout improved application and virtual desktop performance, reclaimed 20–70% of storage through deduplication, added 30 TB for patrol and jail video, now supports 95% of county applications and 200 Horizon users, and reduced deployment times—delivering scalable, easier management and measurable cost and efficiency gains.
