A NetApp Case Study
Henrico County, Virginia, a fast-growing local government that hosts major events like the UCI Road World Championships, faced mounting pressure on its IT systems from an 8.5% compounded population growth rate and the need to keep 911, dispatch, utilities, and 185 applications responsive during huge traffic spikes. The county needed a modern, flexible storage platform that could scale nondisruptively, maintain high availability for public-safety workloads, and migrate with minimal downtime.
Working with partner ePlus, Henrico upgraded to NetApp clustered Data ONTAP on FAS8040 and FAS2552 systems and deployed SnapMirror, SnapVault, Flash Cache, and OnCommand tools. The upgrade delivered nondisruptive scaling, dramatically improved performance (latency averages dropped to about 2ms), eliminated tape backups, cut large-workload deployment time from two days to two hours, and sustained a 1,000% transaction surge during the UCI event while keeping services fully available.
