COMING Embraces Innovation with NetApp Clustered Data ONTAP to Grow Both Cloud Business and Service Scope

COMING (Computer Engineering), a leading Serbian IT specialist and public cloud provider, needed to evolve its NetApp-based storage to support rapid cloud growth while maintaining performance, QoS, and integration with an 8Gbit FC SAN and VMware for several hundred VMs. The company required a scalable, high-performance solution that would accommodate five years of growth without disrupting customer services.

COMING upgraded to NetApp’s FAS8000 series (FAS8020) running clustered Data ONTAP, added Flash Cache and a hybrid storage tier, and performed a phased live migration via VMware Storage vMotion. The move completed without downtime in 10 days, repurposed the old FAS2240 as disaster recovery with SnapVault, and used OnCommand for monitoring—delivering a 5x improvement in random read performance, saving five SAS disk shelves, reducing footprint and power, optimizing capacity/performance (up to 50% dedupe on replicas), and enabling scalable, QoS-enabled cloud services.
