A NetApp Case Study
The City of Fremantle, a local government authority in Western Australia serving about 30,000 residents with 400+ staff, faced an urgent IT challenge as its main office was rebuilt and a more mobile, activity‑based workforce was introduced. Their aging data‑centre was costly and time‑consuming to manage, caused performance problems for core systems, and undermined staff confidence—so the council needed a high‑performance, easy‑to‑manage infrastructure to enable secure access to data anywhere, anytime.
After a competitive tender the City deployed a FlexPod solution delivered by Xpanse, moving production to all‑flash FlexPod and using a NetApp FAS2554 hybrid system for offsite backup/DR; deduplication allowed the original 60TB requirement to be reduced to 40TB (33% less). The build and cutover took under two weeks, and outcomes included dramatically improved system performance, significantly lower administration overhead, robust backup and disaster recovery, easier test environment provisioning, and a platform that supports a truly mobile workforce and new resident services.
