City of Evansville Enhances Services, Braces for Growth with NetApp Storage

The City of Evansville’s Computer Services division supports 2,500 city and county employees and a broad set of mission-critical applications, but its SAN had reached capacity and lacked the replication, VMware integration, and scalability needed to continue virtualization, enable VDI, centralize heterogeneous storage, and avoid an expensive forklift upgrade.

Evansville consolidated on a NetApp V3240 controller with SnapMirror replication to a FAS3210 DR site, using SnapManager, deduplication, and thin provisioning alongside VMware virtualization. The new environment cut storage requirements by about 60%, reduced restore times from weeks to hours, accelerated virtual server provisioning (helping shrink physical servers from 150 to 10), and delivered stronger disaster recovery, scalability, and cost-efficiency so IT can deploy more services and meet future growth.
