Children’s Mercy Hospital Turns Digital Leader and Delivers World-Class Care with NetApp

Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City—ranked among the nation’s top pediatric centers—treats more than 500,000 children a year and supports some 8,000 caregivers who need fast, consistent access to patient information. The hospital needed a future-proof, easy-to-manage IT platform to handle growing volumes of clinical and operational data, integrate nonmedical workflows, and enable virtualized access across the campus without slowing caregivers or adding complexity.

Children’s Mercy deployed NetApp HCI and the NetApp Data Fabric to run a 4,000-seat Horizon View virtual desktop environment in scalable pods (14 HCI chassis across two racks, with compute and storage nodes) and a separate test/sandbox cluster. The result is consistent, fast access to the same patient data on physical and virtual desktops (saving caregivers about 30 seconds per lookup), on-demand scaling of performance and storage, seamless workload movement to the cloud, and a more flexible, digitally enabled hospital poised to expand virtual and mobile care.
