Children’s Hospital Futureproofs IT with Highly Scalable NetApp Storage

Children’s Hospital Central California, a 348‑bed nonprofit and the region’s only dedicated pediatric hospital, needed to replace an aging storage environment to support mission‑critical systems such as Merge PACS and MEDITECH EMR, meet strict uptime and HIPAA requirements, and handle rapidly growing data (about 25% annually). IT sought a scalable, highly available platform to ensure fast access to patient data, robust protection, and improved recovery SLAs across clinical and administrative applications.

Working with CDW and NetApp, the hospital consolidated onto NetApp FAS6210HA clusters (with a FAS3240 archival system), migrating 135 TB and dozens of systems. The unified solution (Snapshot, SnapRestore, SnapMirror/SnapVault, deduplication, and VMware integration) delivered 300 virtual servers and 450 virtual desktops, cut storage needs by more than one‑third, and reduced recovery‑time objectives for top‑tier systems from 24 to 4 hours—futureproofing the infrastructure while lowering costs and simplifying management.
