Central Ohio Transit Authority: Building Smarter Transportation Solutions with Enhanced Video Security

Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) operates more than 400 vehicles across seven counties, serving 1.2 million residents and 18 million passenger trips annually. As COTA expanded, its CCTV ecosystem became fragmented—buses, facilities, and Park & Rides used separate recorders, with each bus running 9–11 HD cameras to local DVRs—leading to storage shortfalls, frequent drive failures, limited retention and cumbersome video retrieval.

COTA centralized nearly 4,000 cameras onto a Genetec video platform running on NetApp E-Series storage within a FlexPod Select converged infrastructure. The rollout was fast to deploy and low maintenance (<4 hours to go live), delivers enterprise reliability (>99.999% availability and mirrored recovery), enables real‑time Park & Ride streaming over fiber, reduces downtime and total cost of ownership versus cloud, and provides simple, scalable capacity growth.
