Blach Construction Cuts IT Costs and Improves Bottom Line in Competitive Business with NetApp AltaVault

Blach Construction, a 200-person Northern California builder known for sustainable, tech-enabled projects, faced rising data volumes, costly backup infrastructure, and a small three-person IT team stretched between headquarters and up to 40 job sites. The company needed to improve collaboration and application performance on sites, lower backup and recovery costs, and strengthen data security while freeing IT to focus on business-driving work.

Blach deployed NetApp AltaVault with Veeam Backup & Replication and Amazon S3, replacing SAN-to-SAN and tape backups with cloud-integrated storage. The change returned nearly 20 IT hours per month to strategic work, cut backup storage and management costs to about $200/month for 5.5 TB (vs. $20K–$25K SAN upgrades), improved recoverability and performance, and enhanced data security—helping the firm better support job-site collaboration and competitiveness.
