Bellevue College Eliminates Downtime for Private Cloud Services with NetApp Clustered Data ONTAP

Bellevue College, the third-largest higher-education institution in Washington serving about 58,000 students, needed to deliver 24/7 private cloud services as student expectations rose and its data grew by 10–15 TB per year. The college required a highly available, scalable storage platform to support new digital-asset management initiatives and planned virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) without disruptive downtime.

Working with Bridge Data Solutions and NetApp, Bellevue deployed a dual-controller FAS6210 running clustered Data ONTAP with VMware virtualization, Flash Cache, deduplication, and Snapshot/SnapRestore. The deployment eliminated storage downtime, improved VM performance by about 20%, reduced storage footprint and costs, and enabled around-the-clock access to digital media and future VDI services—transforming IT into a strategic partner.
