A NetApp Case Study
Bank of Cyprus, the island’s largest banking group with about 4,000 employees and 160 branches, needed to modernize its infrastructure for a digitized, mobile- and cloud-driven financial services market while meeting strict EU data‑privacy and availability requirements. The IT team’s challenge was to boost performance and uptime, consolidate legacy and open‑systems applications, and enable cloud readiness without disrupting services for internal and retail users.
Working with COMIT and NetApp, the bank migrated to NetApp FAS8000 hybrid systems with clustered Data ONTAP and MetroCluster in an active‑active, cross‑site configuration. The upgrade delivered nondisruptive failover, Flash Pool performance, and deduplication/compression/thin provisioning—reducing capacity by nearly 100 TB, shrinking the storage footprint by 64% (9 to 4 cabinets, 83 to 28 shelves), and cutting energy costs by €30,000/year. The result: faster applications, simplified management, automated replication with single‑command failover, and a cloud‑ready platform that supports 24/7 business operations.
