A NetApp Case Study
All for One Steeb AG, a leading SAP partner in the German-speaking market serving over 240 customers and roughly 70,000 SAP users, faced a challenge when a midsized manufacturing client migrated to SAP HANA: provide a cost-effective backup model that ensured virtually 100% availability of ERP services. SAP HANA’s different data management and resource‑intensive full backup process meant traditional backup methods risked performance hits and downtime, and the solution needed to leverage existing NetApp secondary systems where possible.
All for One Steeb deployed a NetApp FAS8060 MetroCluster HA across two data centers, using NetApp Snapshot for sub‑minute local backups (registered in the HANA catalog), then asynchronously replicating those snapshots with SnapVault and managing them via Snap Creator integrated with HANA Studio. The result: the critical first backup step became 60–100× faster, SAP HANA remained available except for about one minute during backups, hourly backups run with no performance impact, and the company could apply its standardized NetApp SAP operating model to HANA while meeting strict SLAs.
