Case Study: Hiroshima Prefectural Government strengthens data protection and BCP with NetApp hybrid cloud storage

A NetApp Case Study

Preview of the Hiroshima Prefectural Government Case Study

Cloud Volumes ONTAP for Microsoft Azure with cloud-connected all-flash array realized the data protection for 400TB of integrated storage

The Hiroshima Prefectural Government needed to support 7,000 users and drive digital transformation with a modernized IT infrastructure, but their legacy file server suffered from chronic capacity shortages and performance issues. To overcome these challenges and improve their disaster recovery strategy, they partnered with NetApp to implement an all-flash array and cloud backup solutions.

The solution from NetApp centered on deploying the NetApp AFF A220 all-flash array, which consolidated 400TB of storage into a single, highly efficient 2U unit. This provided a high-performance file server and virtual infrastructure storage, automating backups with Snapshots and using SnapMirror with Cloud Volumes ONTAP for Microsoft Azure for daily offsite backups. This NetApp solution resulted in a staggering 97% reduction in physical footprint (from over half a rack to 2U) and a 96% decrease in power consumption, while drastically enhancing data protection and recovery capabilities.
