A leading financial institution, one of the nation's largest public pension funds, was managing separate backup solutions for its x86 and mainframe systems. The aging x86 backup environment had become too expensive to support, and the subsequent need to refresh its mainframe backup created further complexity. The institution sought to consolidate and simplify its backup infrastructure to reduce costs and management overhead.

NetApp implemented its E-Series storage system to serve as a single solution backing up both the x86 environment, using Commvault, and the mainframe data, using Luminex. By consolidating 660TB of data onto a unified E-Series system, the institution significantly reduced costs and management complexity. The solution also provided greater reliability and data protection, with drive rebuild times reduced from a full day to just minutes, virtually eliminating the risk of data loss during a rebuild.
