A Netacea Case Study
Largest Multinational Telecommunications Company, a top-three UK telecom serving over 15 million customers, was targeted by widespread credential-stuffing and account takeover attacks that abused bundled streaming subscriptions. Attackers used distributed bots to validate leaked credentials, hijack accounts and sell streaming access on the dark web, creating high support volumes, partner friction and infrastructure strain. The customer engaged Netacea and its bot management solution (Intent Analytics/Netacea Bot Management) to investigate and stop the malicious traffic.
Netacea integrated with the company’s authentication services, using machine learning-driven Intent Analytics to distinguish human, benign and malicious bots in real time and permit, challenge or block requests. Over nine months Netacea mitigated an average of 1,200 malicious login attempts per hour (peaking at ~600,000/hour), prevented more than 350,000 account thefts, stopped over 120,000 takeover attempts and helped save the client an estimated £1 million in customer support costs. Netacea’s adaptive bot defenses restored customer protection and reduced operational and partner disruption.
