Protecting a Top Ten Global Video Game Publisher Against Account Takeover Bots

Global Video Games Developer and Publisher Company, a top‑ten global games developer with over 5,000 employees and a large online membership platform that stores payment details, credits and in‑game assets, faced sophisticated account takeover threats ahead of a major franchise launch. Despite a Web Application Firewall and an in‑house client‑side security layer, the business needed a frictionless, server‑side bot protection layer, so it engaged Netacea for an agentless implementation of Netacea Bot Management using its Intent Analytics engine.

Netacea ingested web, mobile, API and console login traffic into its data pipeline and used machine‑learning profiling and patented Intent Clustering to surface malicious behavior, supplemented by Bot Experts and Threat Research. The solution flagged 2,655 malicious login attempts (1.3% of logins), identified 75 successful account breaches that had bypassed two other defenses, discovered a bespoke credential‑stuffing tool, and fed actionable alerts into the client’s Splunk SIEM to drive password resets and MFA enforcement—preventing potential loss of payment data, credits and in‑game assets during the launch.
