Protecting a Stock Photography Website Against Credential Stuffing and Account Abuse Bots

The Licenser of Stock Photography Company, a global provider of hundreds of millions of images licensed from over one million contributors, was being targeted by large-scale credential stuffing and account takeover (ATO) bots that harvested customer and contributor accounts and resold access on the dark web. To stop the attacks they engaged Netacea and deployed Netacea Bot Management with its Intent Analytics machine‑learning engine to gain full visibility over their account and contributor login traffic.

Netacea used its Intent Analytics to detect and block malicious, automated traffic in real time, identifying that much of the site’s account-area traffic was bot-driven and that a single user agent produced 2.3 million malicious login attempts in 48 hours. Netacea blocked 97% of malicious traffic overall, prevented 98% of account-validation requests before credentials could be used, reduced reported fraudulent account access by 98%, achieved a 100% CAPTCHA incomplete rate on the blocked agent, and maintained a very low false‑positive rate — also lowering server load and associated infrastructure costs.
