XO Communications, a major U.S. service provider serving over 90,000 customers across roughly one million miles of metro fiber and hundreds of peering relationships, was struggling to manage rapid network growth. Its small IP engineering team had only coarse traffic stats (bytes in/out) and couldn’t pinpoint traffic sources or distinguish legitimate from illegitimate flows, which led to congestion and operational uncertainty.

To fix this, XO deployed Arbor Networks’ Peakflow SP (Collector Platform and Flow Sensor) to centrally collect and analyze NetFlow data, offering ASN/prefix/protocol-level visibility for real-time and historical traffic engineering and peering analysis.
