A NETSCOUT Case Study
Well Power, a Type II telecommunications provider in Taiwan, relied on cloud-based scrubbing and next‑generation firewalls but still struggled with complex firewall configuration, session-table exhaustion and “low-and-slow” application‑layer or multi‑vector attacks that bypassed scrubbing centers. During evaluation they discovered a customer under a 5 Gbps attack that scrubbing reduced to 5 Mbps, but on-premise inspection revealed most of that remaining traffic was dangerous reflection/amplification and that small DDoS packets (1–3% of traffic) were continually probing for vulnerabilities.
Well Power deployed Arbor Networks APS on‑premise, first in monitoring mode to gain real‑time visibility and then in active mode to block malicious flows. APS enabled faster, automated detection and mitigation (no 5–15 minute scrubbing convergence), finer-grained custom defenses and simpler management; the result was improved uptime, higher customer trust and measurable reductions in attack frequency and size (from attacks every ~3 days to ~3 weeks and from 10+ Gbps to ~100 Mbps).
