A NETSCOUT Case Study
The Instituto Federal Electoral (IFE) faced sustained cyberattacks and public claims that its PREP (Preliminary Program of Electoral Results) had been compromised during the federal election period. CIO René Miranda acknowledged increased malicious traffic and social-media rumors of a database breach, creating a critical availability and reputation challenge for the election infrastructure.
To protect services, IFE boosted dedicated bandwidth to 600 Mbps and deployed a layered defense combining Telmex’s Scitum, Arbor Networks systems and Pravail devices for continuous traffic monitoring. The result: DDoS attempts failed to disrupt PREP or IFE operations, no data tampering was detected, and the institute maintained service continuity while debunking fake attack images circulating online.
