Small Financial Institution Employs Hybrid DDoS Protection Posture to Protect Their Network

A regional short-term financial services company that runs online, mobile and branch loan applications was repeatedly targeted by DDoS actors, including application‑layer and TCP‑table attacks that bypassed stateful devices. Their existing always‑on, cloud‑only DDoS service, which focused on volumetric spikes, could not reliably identify or stop low‑and‑slow Layer‑7 and TCP‑flood attacks, leaving firewall and VPN systems under continual strain.

NETSCOUT recommended a hybrid defense combining on‑premise Arbor Edge Defense (AED) appliances at each data center to protect stateful devices and the network edge, alongside Arbor Cloud for volumetric mitigation. After deploying AED and Arbor Cloud, the institution saw a marked reduction in the recurring firewall attacks and gained the ability to detect and mitigate multi‑vector DDoS threats across the application stack.
