A NETSCOUT Case Study
One of the largest U.S. energy companies, managing generation, transmission and delivery across multiple states, was in the middle of a major smart meter (AMI) rollout and needed to prevent outages and service degradations. Because AMI and several business applications (Office 365, Outage Management, Crew Management, SaaS and VoIP) rely on distributed networked services, IT lacked end-to-end visibility into virtual servers, ESB, collection engines and remote sites, slowing triage and risking customer experience.
The company deployed NETSCOUT nGeniusONE, InfiniStreamNG appliances, nGenius 3900 Packet Flow Switches and nGeniusPULSE synthetic testing to gain packet-level visibility, port tagging and continuous MOS/VoIP metrics. This enabled rapid isolation of issues (for example, uncovering an unsupported proxy impacting Office 365), reduced MTTR, ensured AMI performance and billing accuracy, lowered operating costs, and helped prioritize deeper investments in sites with SaaS or VoIP problems.
