A North American wireless provider with over 90 million subscribers was deploying LTE alongside its existing 3G CDMA2000 network and needed seamless interworking between domains. Subscribers in one region were unable to authenticate to the 3G network, but existing monitoring tools only showed RADIUS requests from the eHRPD network and gave no clear indication of the service‑affecting fault.

NetScout’s nGenius solution—deployed with analytics modules and InfiniStream appliances—provided region‑by‑region visibility into Diameter, RADIUS and HSS transactions and delivered early warnings of abnormal authentication denials. Packet‑level analysis revealed misrouted RADIUS requests hitting the HSS instead of the 3G AAA server; sharing this root cause enabled the 3G team to fix the routing, restoring service. The customer gained faster detection and resolution, clear identification of affected services/regions/customers, and reduced time to restore user experience.
