Instituto Politécnico Nacional Makes High Quality Student Experience a Priority

Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), one of Mexico’s largest public universities serving over 200,000 students, staff and faculty across more than 20 states, relied on web services for registration, grading and other essential functions. Frequent outages, network slowness, DNS and database errors, WAN saturation and fragmented point tools were disrupting student access and preventing IT from identifying root causes quickly.

IPN implemented NETSCOUT’s nGeniusONE service-assurance platform and InfiniStreamNG appliances to build a Smart Data Core and gain end-to-end visibility into web, application and database layers. The solution exposed a DNS load imbalance, misconfigured QoS settings and backend database faults—fixes that restored proper load distribution and eliminated 503 errors. As a result, uptime and application responsiveness improved, student experience was dramatically better, and IT achieved faster troubleshooting, improved cross-team collaboration and more effective capacity planning.
