A NETSCOUT Case Study
This case study describes a 75-year-old, multi-state U.S. healthcare network serving about 10 million patients that migrated services to Equinix carrier-neutral facilities (CNFs). During the COVID-19 surge, home-based workforce traffic to those CNFs rose 30–40%, and clinicians and patients reported slow Azure-hosted services and telemedicine problems (choppy audio/video and dropped calls) while the IT team lacked visibility into the new Equinix sites.
The healthcare team deployed NETSCOUT’s nGeniusONE service assurance platform with nGenius 5100 Packet Flow Switches and InfiniStreamNG appliances to gain packet-level visibility at the three CNFs. Analysis quickly identified an Azure throttling setting and a gateway speed bottleneck affecting telemedicine; configuration changes were implemented to restore call quality. The result was faster access to cloud services, improved telehealth experience for staff and patients, rapid, cost-effective deployment, and lower overall ownership costs.
