A Fortune 500 North American rail freight company with over 21,000 miles of track, 4,000+ IP-connected sites and more than 6,000 wayside units needed end-to-end visibility into remote, often unconditioned wayside bungalows to assure critical services (voice, telemetry, failover) and diagnose issues. Manual packet captures were impractical and insecure, and any deployed hardware had to survive extreme temperatures, vibration and limited connectivity without major firewall or engineering changes.
