A NETSCOUT Case Study
A prominent Pan‑African retail bank with over 6 million customers, 30,000+ employees and branches worldwide faced an imminent end‑of‑life for its existing security stack and limited internal (east‑west) visibility from a perimeter‑centric approach. The bank needed packet‑based IDS capabilities, DNS‑tunneling detection, and a scalable solution to surface hidden vulnerabilities and protect against data exfiltration across its large DNS footprint.
NETSCOUT deployed an Omnis solution including 9800 CyberStream sensors (Suricata‑based IDS with 100Gb capacity), Omnis Cyber Intelligence (OCI) for centralized management, and 7110 Packet Flow Switches to handle high packet rates. The deployment delivered internal traffic visibility, converted and enforced custom IDS signatures, enabled behavioral analytics and proactive alerts, improved threat detection that perimeter tools missed, supported compliance monitoring, and provided the scalability to expand monitoring across branches—strengthening the bank’s security posture and regulatory readiness.
