A NETSCOUT Case Study
Covad Communications, which serves over 57 million homes and businesses across 235 U.S. markets, faced the dual challenge of maintaining high network reliability while defending against growing DDoS attacks, botnets and other threats that can degrade service and drive up operating costs. Because customers hold providers accountable for outages and degraded performance, Covad needed a way to rapidly detect and shut down attacks while also optimizing traffic across its nationwide network.
Covad deployed Peakflow SP to gain pervasive IP-flow visibility and comprehensive threat management, and used Arbor’s Active Threat Feed and Fingerprint Sharing Alliance to share attack signatures with other providers. The result was faster, more surgical detection and mitigation that minimized customer impact and costly collateral damage, while superior traffic engineering improved network performance and lowered operating costs.
