Case Study: Comcast Business achieves IPv6 visibility and transition readiness with NETSCOUT Peakflow SP

A NETSCOUT Case Study

Preview of the Comcast Business Case Study

Comcast Leverages Peakflow SP Product to Facilitate IPv6 Transition

Comcast, a leading U.S. media, entertainment and communications company serving millions of video, data and voice subscribers, undertook a multi-year transition from IPv4 to IPv6 as IPv4 address space dwindled. The main challenge was ensuring the entire environment—DOCSIS access networks, core routing, back-office systems and management tools—was IPv6-ready and that the company could see both native IPv6 and various tunneled IPv6 traffic during a phased rollout.

Comcast used its existing Arbor Peakflow SP solution to collect and analyze NetFlow data, giving operators dashboards and reports that show IPv6 traffic by network, device, customer and application and detect IPv6-related threats. This provided daily visibility into native and tunneled IPv6 adoption, helped monitor transition technologies and DDoS risks, and delivered a clear, measurable understanding of IPv6 traffic that supported a successful, managed migration.
