How Office Depot, the Office Supply Retailer, Transitioned Their On-premises Staff to a Remote Workspace and Saves 40% on Azure Costs During the Covid-19 Pandemic Using Nerdio Manager for Enterprise

Office Depot, the office supply retailer and banner brand of The ODP Corporation, needed to rapidly move its on-premises staff to a remote workspace during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lacking experience with large-scale Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) deployments and facing challenges with image/session management and legacy apps that required on‑premises mainframe connectivity, Office Depot engaged Nerdio and deployed Nerdio Manager for Enterprise to help with the transition.

Nerdio installed Nerdio Manager for Enterprise into Office Depot’s environment, automated image creation and rollout (in conjunction with Ansible), resolved terminal-emulation key‑mapping issues, and enabled a large-scale AVD rollout with published desktops and RemoteApps — also creating a platform usable by Office Depot and its MSP, Compucom. As a result of Nerdio’s automated management and auto-scaling capabilities, Office Depot achieved up to 40% savings on Azure compute and storage costs while streamlining image and session management.
