Preview of the Large City in Oklahoma Case Study

A U.S. Local Government’s Successful Transition to A Cloud-First Approach with Azure Virtual Desktop

Large City in Oklahoma faced a major IT modernization challenge when it decided to move 3,000 employees to Microsoft’s Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). The City needed a secure, cloud-first solution that would simplify management, enable remote collaboration on Teams and Zoom, and extend the life of aging PCs while addressing concerns about security, recoverability, and rapid deployment. Microsoft introduced the City to partners including Nerdio to support the AVD proof-of-concept.

Nerdio deployed Nerdio Manager for Enterprise to centralize and automate AVD management, while the City used partner tools to convert existing Dell and HP devices into cloud endpoints. With Nerdio, the City deployed over 600 users in the first month, shrank desktop deployments from weeks to hours, and enabled any IT staff member to manage AVD, speeding help-desk response. The initiative delivered measurable impact: an average savings of $10K per month and a more secure, scalable cloud environment.
