A Neo4j Case Study
GGC Belgium COCOM, the central liaison for public health in the Brussels-Capital region, faced an urgent contact-tracing challenge as COVID-19 cases surged: an overwhelming volume of case data was being managed in Excel, burying the networked connections needed to detect and respond to infection clusters quickly and effectively.
COCOM implemented a graph-based contact tracing system using Neo4j to connect cases by overlapping times and locations and visualize exposure points. The solution cut analyst triage time from about 10 minutes per cluster to roughly 1 minute (a 90% reduction), identified more than 5,000 clusters, and scaled to hundreds of thousands of nodes and relationships—greatly improving visibility and response and providing a foundation for tracking other diseases.
