Investor IQT Uses Neo4j to Help U.S. Intelligence Agencies Find the Best Cutting-Edge Technology

In-Q-Tel (IQT) is a nonprofit venture firm and technology accelerator that helps U.S. intelligence agencies access cutting‑edge technologies. IQT needed to evaluate and decompose innovations across dozens of sectors and maintain a wide network of startups, VCs and research centers, but its process was manual—relying on spreadsheets and diagrams—so identifying complementary capabilities and new product combinations was slow and limited.

IQT implemented a Neo4j graph database (about 100,000 nodes) with a custom front end and integrated external sources to join siloed data and improve search relevance. The graph approach sped up and improved technology decomposition and vendor vetting, made it easier to generate sophisticated “recombinant” solutions for government customers, eliminated manual diagramming, and sharpened IQT’s insight into future technology trends.
