FSMB Creates Recommendation Engine to Streamline Medical Licensure

The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) needed a better way to guide physicians through the complex medical licensure process and help them find the right exams and services at the right time. Using Neo4j AuraDB Enterprise on AWS, FSMB set out to build a website recommendation engine that could match users to relevant next steps based on their exam history, eligibility, training, and location.

Neo4j enabled FSMB to launch a graph-powered recommendation engine that personalizes landing pages and directs future doctors through the registration process more clearly. The phase 1 rollout went live in April 2022 and quickly reduced customer service calls, emails, and live chat requests by nearly 50%, while improving the user experience and laying a scalable foundation for additional recommendations beyond USMLE Step 3.
