CSX, a major railroad on the U.S. eastern seaboard, faced challenges related to its legacy systems and the complexity of tracking its highly fluid assets across a vast network. To modernize its operations and create a single source of truth, CSX turned to Neo4j Enterprise to build a digital twin of its physical railway system.

Using Neo4j, CSX implemented a near-real-time graph database to serve as a centralized repository for shipment data, accurately modeling locomotives, rail cars, and their interrelationships. This solution provided granular asset tracking, eliminated data duplicates, and unlocked new efficiencies. The measurable results for Neo4j include tracking over 24,000 locomotives, 1,600 trains per day, and 263,000 rail cars, providing both internal operational visibility and enhanced customer integration into the supply chain.
