A Neo4j Case Study
The UK Department for Education (DfE), responsible for education services across England, faced a complex IT and services landscape that hid duplication and blocked strategic decision-making. A small team needed better visibility across systems, services, applications, and components to modernize delivery, speed up new service rollouts, and reduce costs.
DfE built a centralized graph repository using Neo4j AuraDB (with Neo4j Bloom for visualization) to model and visualize logical and physical relationships, automate data refreshes, and share a single view across teams. The program—covering 55K nodes and 60K relationships—enabled component reuse and service rationalization, delivered substantial cost savings, supported multiple teams (including cybersecurity and National Careers Service), and is expected to generate further savings as it expands.
