A NEC Display Solutions Case Study

Preview of the WLS-TV Case Study

WLS-TV enhances its news broadcasts with NEC large-screen LCDs

WLS-TV (ABC 7 News) faced a technical challenge when redesigning its State Street studio: large flat-panel displays looked correct to the eye but did not reproduce accurate color on TV cameras under heavy ambient daylight and fluorescent lighting. The station needed displays with highly flexible color-temperature controls and no risk of burn-in, so they evaluated options and selected NEC Display Solutions’ 40" MultiSync LCD4010 panels.

WLS-TV installed five 40" NEC MultiSync LCD4010 displays (purchased from Software House International), using AJA HDP adapters and DVI digital feeds plus waveform monitors and scopes to precisely calibrate color. NEC Display Solutions’ panels delivered accurate on-camera color and clarity, were integrated into daily newscasts for graphics, interviews and weather/traffic gestures, and increased street visibility (about 100 people often watching from outside), helping drive viewer attention and advertiser interest.
