A NEC Display Solutions Case Study
The University of California San Diego needed to foster collaboration and push the limits of its computer-cluster visualization capabilities for Calit2’s OptIPortable projects. To support simultaneous video conferencing and visualization of very large datasets, UCSD partnered with NEC Display Solutions, using NEC X461UN and X462UN ultra-narrow-bezel LCDs (and planning X551UNs) to build wall-sized, high-resolution video walls.
NEC Display Solutions supplied stacked X461UN and X462UN panels to create portable tiled video walls—examples include a 4x4 wall of 16 X461UNs, a 4x10 wall of 40 X461UNs, and a 2x16 “Vroom” module made from 32 X462UNs (a 14'×14' immersive booth). The NEC deployments delivered near-seamless imagery, reliability and brightness, enabling deeper real-time collaboration, global deployments (including KAUST and SIGGRAPH ’11) and a measurable expansion of UCSD’s visualization and conferencing capabilities.
