NEC Projectors Bring Japanese Artist’s Vision to Life

San Jose Museum of Art needed to present Japanese artist Tabaimo’s first solo U.S. exhibit, which featured room-size, multi-channel video animations, in a way that stayed true to the artist’s vision while remaining operable and durable over a six-month run. The artist specifically requested NEC Display Solutions projectors, and the museum sought a cutting-edge, reliable projection solution to create an immersive multimedia environment.

NEC Display Solutions provided four NEC PA550W projectors (with NP12ZL lenses) that were precisely mounted and synced—using Mac Minis and the artist’s software—to form seamless, large-scale projections around a curved gallery space. The installation enabled the intended immersive experience, ran from Feb. 6–Aug. 21, 2016 with only one bulb replacement over the six months, and drew favorable feedback from Tabaimo, museum staff and visitors, helping make the exhibition a clear success.
