NEC Digital Signage Makes Promotions Pop at Carmike Cinemas’ Concessions Stands

Carmike Cinemas, the fourth-largest movie theater chain in the U.S. with 280 locations, needed a faster, more consistent way to promote concessions and increase per-user spending across 45 different concession layouts. To replace slow, costly paper counter cards and enable regional flexibility and rapid price changes, Carmike turned to NEC Display Solutions, deploying commercial 42" NEC V423 and 46" NEC V463 digital menu-board displays.

NEC Display Solutions supplied more than 1,700 displays (plus mounts, cabling and hardware) while systems integrator Cinema Scene Marketing handled installation, content strategy and POS integration; the roll‑out covered nearly 225 sites in the initial phase (with full completion in 2014). The NEC solution lets a single content manager update screens in seconds, run targeted or interruptive promotions, streamline operations, and refresh concession-area appearance—Carmike reports strong staff and customer feedback, expects lower total cost of ownership, and anticipates increased concession profits.
