Burr Yacht Sets Sail with NEC Display Solutions LCD Monitors

Burr Yacht Sales, a Maryland-based broker and the world’s largest seller of Fleming yachts, faced unreliable CRT displays with poor brightness and limited viewable area in its pilot houses and bridges. In the late 1990s the company turned to NEC Display Solutions for a solution, evaluating NEC flat-panel MultiSync monitors such as the 15" models and later the MultiSync LCD1830, LCD1550X and LCD1880SX to provide flush-mounting, improved reliability and better daylight/night visibility.

NEC Display Solutions supplied thin-bezel, high-brightness LCDs that increased usable screen area (from under 14" with CRTs to up to 18" on newer models—a more than four-inch gain) without redesigning consoles, and offered easy retrofits for existing boats. The monitors improved navigation readability and reliability, allowed customers to dim displays for night vision, and were deployed across Burr Yacht’s fleet (in 2002 Burr Yacht installed eighteen 18" MultiSync LCD1880SX units across twelve Flemings), delivering measurable operational and customer-experience benefits.
