An Illinois University Updates its Educational Technology with NEC Projectors

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville needed to replace and standardize classroom projectors after its previous vendor exited the U.S. market. The ITS team required cost-efficient, low‑maintenance units that would integrate with existing Crestron room controls, ceiling mounts and varied throw distances. After a semester-long field test, the university selected NEC Display Solutions and its projector lineup (including NP-P451W/NP-P452 and the laser NP-P502WL/NP-P502WL-2) as the new standard.

NEC Display Solutions supplied a campus-wide mix of models — 57 NP-P451W/NP-P452 and 35 NP-P502WL/NP-P502WL-2 (plus several PA series units) — standardizing AV across roughly 150 classrooms and phasing in laser projectors over 2–3 years. The NEC solution cut maintenance and downtime (laser units remove bulbs and filters), came with a five-year warranty, improved brightness and color accuracy, enabled firmware updates for integration (e.g., HDBaseT power-on), and earned positive feedback from faculty.
