A NEC Corporation Case Study
Genesis Hosting Solutions, a Chicago-based virtual infrastructure hosting company focused on enterprise customers, faced an increasingly complex and costly network that threatened its goal of delivering 99.999% availability at a competitive price while coping with dwindling public IP addresses. To simplify management, support massive scale, and enable secure multi-tenant virtual networks, Genesis selected NEC Corporation’s OpenFlow-based ProgrammableFlow solution (ProgrammableFlow Controller, 5240 switches and Management Console).
NEC Corporation deployed ProgrammableFlow in production to centralize policy, automate configuration and enable self-repair across the network; all customer traffic, virtual routers and VMs now run through the platform. As a result Genesis achieved a simplified, scalable network that supports its 99.999% availability target, cut network administration (about 100 hours weekly / ~50% less effort), reduced IP usage up to 60% (allowing more customers per address pool) and unlocked new revenue from secure multi-tenant services.
