Compton Unified School District boosts graduation to 89% with Nearpod

Compton Unified School District (CUSD), serving over 20,000 students, faced a significant challenge in maintaining student engagement and reversing learning loss following the COVID-19 school shutdowns. This was particularly difficult given that more than a quarter of their students were English language learners. The district needed a tech-forward solution to reengage its student population and continue its upward trend in academic achievement. They turned to the vendor Nearpod and its platform, along with Flocabulary, to address this challenge.

Nearpod provided a solution with its extensive library of interactive content and real-time formative assessment tools, which were integrated across the curriculum. The implementation of Nearpod and Flocabulary led to measurable positive results for Compton USD. Chronic absenteeism fell, the graduation rate reached 89%, and nearly half of English learners showed progress toward proficiency. Student engagement significantly increased, with 79% of fifth graders feeling academically motivated. Usage of the platforms grew dramatically, with almost 300,000 activities launched in a single year.
