NComputing Thin Clients Chosen to Migrate from Windows XP – PARCC Assessment Testing Support Key to Success

Pana Community School District #8, a four-school district in central Illinois serving 1,400 students, needed a cost-effective way to migrate from Windows XP, replace aging classroom PCs, and reliably support state PARCC online assessments. With limited IT staff and budget, the district required a solution that simplified management and met testing compatibility requirements.

The district deployed Windows 2012 hosts with Hyper-V and Windows 2008 R2 VMs running NComputing vSpace, plus 240+ NComputing L300 thin clients in labs and classrooms. The rollout cost roughly one-third of a comparable desktop or VDI replacement, met PARCC requirements out of the box, centralized management to 12–15 servers instead of hundreds of desktops, reduced power and cooling needs, eliminated frequent PC repairs, and freed up staff time for other priorities.
