Library Expands Computer Access and Cuts Support Costs

Hamilton East Public Library, a two-branch system in central Indiana, faced frequent PC failures as five desktop OPAC stations overheated in locked, poorly ventilated cabinets. With a tight budget and a two-person IT staff, the library needed a low-cost, low-maintenance way to expand public access without increasing support overhead.

Working with reseller PC Mall, the library replaced traditional desktops with NComputing L-series access devices connected to shared Windows servers. The rollout eliminated about 50 PCs (saving roughly $17,000 in hardware), cut per-station power use from ~200W to 5W, removed heat-related failures, simplified maintenance and reduced support calls, and allowed many more access stations for the same budget while lowering total cost of ownership.
