Global Manufacturer Delivers Precise IT to the Shop Floor

Doncasters Chard, part of the global Doncasters Group and a leader in precision engineering that operates to strict Six Sigma standards, needed a lower-cost, more reliable alternative to traditional PCs on its dusty, multi-shift shop floors. The IT team required bench workstations with USB swipe-card logons that could withstand harsh conditions, reduce downtime from fan- and disk-related failures, and be managed centrally.

They deployed NComputing L230 access devices with vSpace virtual desktop infrastructure, replacing PCs with rugged, fanless, solid-state endpoints. The rollout eliminated frequent hardware failures and extensive shop-floor maintenance, cut costs and downtime, improved reliability and productivity (MTBF >100,000 hours), and allowed simple hot-swap replacements—prompting plans to adopt the multimedia-capable L300 next.
