Catholic School Brings Computers to Every Classroom at One-Third the Cost

Star of the Sea Catholic School, a K–7 private school in British Columbia, was hampered by aging laptops that took up to 15 minutes to boot and suffered spotty connectivity. The unreliable devices ate into classroom time, undermined teachers’ confidence in using technology and kept the IT team and volunteers constantly troubleshooting.

The school deployed NComputing thin clients (L300 and x550), creating 66 student-facing stations powered by just six host computers. The rollout was fast—14 stations added in under three hours—and cost about one-third of traditional hardware, saving more than $25,000; maintenance, power use and noise dropped significantly, and future refreshes now require only host and peripheral upgrades.
