A New Dawn for Millions of Students in Pakistan

NComputing partnered with the Government of Punjab to deliver the Punjab IT Labs project: a rapid, province-wide effort to bring computer access and digital skills to 3.4 million students across 4,286 schools. The government needed a low‑cost, easy‑to‑manage solution that could be deployed quickly in urban and rural schools with limited IT support, so it turned to NComputing’s desktop virtualization technology.

Using NComputing X550 kits to create multiple virtual desktops from a single PC, authorities equipped each lab with servers and 15 workstations (3 PCs + 12 NComputing terminals) and completed the rollout in three months. The approach reduced conventional PC purchases from 64,290 to 12,858, cut upfront costs by about PKR 1.8 billion (roughly 30–36% of the project), halved lab setup costs, and delivered major energy savings (about PKR 10 million/month), while providing sustainable, scalable computer access to millions of students.
