A nCode Case Study
Valeo, one of Europe’s largest car parts suppliers, needed a better way to test automotive components against the real vibration loads they would see in service. Generic test specifications often overdesigned parts in some areas while missing failures in others, increasing both warranty risk and production cost. Valeo worked with nCode and its GlyphWorks test data analysis software to move from generic vibration profiles to realistic, vehicle-specific specifications.
Using nCode GlyphWorks, Valeo converted road load time-history data into damage-equivalent vibration test signals, corrected anomalies, analyzed frequency content, and generated synthesized PSD and swept-sine specifications matched to real vehicle loads. The approach improved correlation with actual conditions and was used in more than 400 engine cooling products. In one example, the realistic specification saved 100,000 Euros in tooling costs, cut manufacturing cost by 0.60 Euros per part, and reduced weight by 10%, while also helping lower warranty risk.
